Our All Inclusive Programs
Maui Recovery is a residential recovery home that provides one of the most nurturing, intimate and safe environments that allows for real healing work to occur. Behavioral Health Hawaii provides a full clinical program where our members receive treatment for several hours per day, 6 days a week. We also provide 5 additional programs at our center that includes: Emotional Healing, Adventure Therapy, Spirituality & Mindfulness, Health & Wellness and Codependency. Additionally, our clients engage in outdoor activities to promote emotional and physical well-being, releasing & breaking through the barriers that has been keeping them blocked from the sunlight of the spirit. Our residential program offers housing in a beautiful serene pace in a 24 hour monitored sober environment, just 750 ft from the Ocean. The day treatment aspect of the program provides intensive, focused treatment that targets and addresses the underlying issues. Our blend of day treatment and secure living environment allows us to offer services that are comparable to most residential treatment facilities while greatly reducing out of pocket costs for our clients.
A Typical Day at Maui Recovery
Imagine waking up to the sunlight on the beautiful Island of Maui and shortly after taking some time for morning meditation to quiet the mind and set the tone for a healing day. A typical day at Maui Recovery is nurturing yet balanced with inner work. While a large part of your day will be spent engaging in focused and effective clinical treatment, you will also have the opportunity to experience one of Maui’s greatest healing assets, the beautiful outdoors. Mornings include a bit of movement to get the blood flowing. Activities include yoga, walks, and other physical exercise. Studies have consistently demonstrated that exercise and sunlight contribute to increased feelings of well-being and decreased depression.
During the middle part of your day you have the options of a clinical program that rotates on a regular basis. You will receive open classroom-style education along with groups that will facilitate recovery from alcohol and other drug issues, along with processed groups that focus on deep emotional healing. Since some concerns may be better suited to individual therapy, the therapists there will spend time with you one-on-one, working to customize your treatment. If there is a need for additional individual therapy, your primary therapist will assist you in reaching these goals. You will also have the opportunity to engage in in-house or community 12-step recovery meetings on a daily basis to further deepen your spiritual growth as well as adventure therapy.
In the evenings, our community gathers for a healthy community meal, which our members often see as a highlight of the day. Since it is common in active addiction for nutrition to be ignored, we emphasize healthy, nutritious, community-based meals. Our family meal approach helps develop sound eating habits along with that ever so important connection to your new supportive recovery Ohana (family). The evenings close with time to journal, play a board game, relax, self care, or work on any assignments either personally developed or suggested by the clinical team.
Weekends are spent exploring the great outdoors, where our adventure leaders and guides will take you to experience the most exhilarating and breathtaking scenic trips the island has to offer. And these aren’t just your every day adventures, it’s true therapy of the nature. Our healers and guides will take you on an inward journey and help you process and breakthrough unconscious fears, shame and insecurities to experience an awakening that creates a deeper sense of passion, self esteem, confidence and a renewed sense for living your life.

Person Centered Medical Home (PCMH)
Maui Recovery realizes that true recovery from addiction includes treatment of physical health issues and screening for chronic medical ailments. As part of our program you will be assessed by either your personal physician, or one of our partner, physicians in order to identify any medical concerns that may need to be addressed. If any medical problems are identified, we will work closely with you and your physician to assure you adhere to recommended medical protocols. Additionally, we subscribe to the model of patient-centered medical care. In order to facilitate this we will work with you to identify and coordinate with your physician all aspects of care. This model is frequently referred to as the Person Centered Medical Home (PCMH).
The PCMH provides primary health care that is relationship-based with an orientation toward the whole person. Partnering with patients and their families emphasizes understanding and respecting each patient’s unique needs, culture, values, and preferences. The medical home practice actively supports patients in learning to manage and organize their own care in order to continue to make and sustain health gains. Recognizing that patients and families are core members of the care team, medical home practices ensure that they are fully informed partners in establishing care plans.

What is Mindfulness? Being mindful means paying attention to the present moment with compassion, a lack of judgment and complete acceptance of the moment exactly as it is. Practicing mindfulness is a gradual process of mind-body-spirit consciousness. The term mindfulness is derived from the pali-term satl which is an essential element of Buddhist practice and has been popularized in the United States by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD. Key concepts include being an observer of thoughts, feelings, and sensations rather than being consumed by them. Why Mindfulness? One of the first steps in dealing with addiction is to discover some of its emotional origins, which is a key part of our program in getting to the deep, buried, mostly painful emotions that we have been frozen from for a long time. The benefits of regular mindfulness practice have been proven scientifically to reduce stress, improve memory, reduce anxiety and depression, increase emotional regulation, relax the nervous system and increase empathy. Recent research has found that only 8 weeks of mindful meditation for approximately 30 minutes a day was found to create structural changes to the brain affecting mood, attention, memory, etc. A mindfulness practice includes meditation and body connection through practices such as yoga but is ultimately a way of life–being aware moment-by-moment of one’s very essence. Mindfulness practice helps us develop the capacity to see clearly what we’re attached to so that we can let go of it and end our suffering. You or your loved one will practice and develop mindfulness every day here at Maui Recovery through our daily meditations, building the practice of going within.
