Holistic Recovery Aftercare
The increase in the use of holistic therapy in the prognosis and remedy of medical conditions doesn’t seem to be waning; in fact, one can safely say that it has become an efficacious alternative to clinical treatments that are at times toxic and invasive.
In our program, holistic, wellness and mindfulness methodologies are certainly a viable therapeutic option for all kinds of addictions because it tends to produce no adverse effects whatsoever. It has not only been proven as an effective drug rehab tool, it also comprises of a lot of serene activities that are valuable to healthy living.
Holistic Recovery is a form of treatment that encompasses a variety of unconventional methods that are applied to alleviate illnesses and achieve all-round wellness. While medical therapy requires the administering of chemical compounds or the use of surgical means to heal a health condition, holistic treatment tends to focus on achieving a state of oneness with a patient’s body, mind, and spirit.
Drug rehab can be a very grueling process because it doesn’t only involve the physical rehabilitation of an ailing body, it also entails the therapeutic nullification of a self-destructing habit.
A conventional medical approach to drug rehab can be very daunting for a drug abuse patient; and while its efficacy can be vouched for, it doesn’t guarantee the absence of future addiction challenges and more importantly, a relapse.
This is because traditional drug addiction treatments mostly try to deal with the physical and health ramifications of drug abuse, while also employing psychological manipulations to help arrest the terrible habit ruining the patient’s life. Even though this method of drug abuse therapy is known to be effective, it is too limited to be an ideal solution for every case of drug abuse.
Holistic Recovery, however, is an all-inclusive procedure that ensures complete wellness and the reintegration of the patient into the society. A holistic practitioner is not only interested in nursing a drug addict or alcoholic back to a state of substance emancipation, he or she is also interested in inculcating healthful habits that are guaranteed to dissuade such a patient from future indulgence in the life-shattering vice.
Types of Holistic Treatments Used
Although the list of holistic therapeutic methods used for health purposes are vast, not all can be applied to the rehabilitation of patients from drug and alcohol abuse. The key objective of any of these holistic treatment methods is to restore the patient’s body to its default state in terms of its biological and biochemical components.
Physical Holistic Therapy
This basically entails any form of non-traditional treatment procedure that helps nurture a patient’s physical health until it is fully restored to its optimal shape and is able to perform all natural functions adequately.
It involves mainly unconventional practices that assist in arresting the deteriorating physical condition of a drug addict, hence, creating a building block for possible revitalization.
Examples of physical holistic therapies that help improve the physical conditions of drug abuse patients include massage therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic treatments. These treatments are vital parts of a holistic drug rehabilitation program that help recondition an impaired body to its functioning state.
Non-Physical Holistic Therapy
This covers a variety of non-traditional treatment methods that don’t require physical contact with the body of the drug abuse patient. While some of these therapeutic procedures are applied to stimulate mental wellness in the patient, others do produce physical manifestations of their effects on the patient.
Common examples of non-physical holistic therapy that can be applied in the execution of drug rehabilitation include meditative techniques like yoga and Tai Chi, nutritional therapy that also includes the administering of herbs, and aromatherapy.
Another useful holistic drug rehab practice that is also gaining popularity is a procedure referred to as biophysical detoxification. This treatment is a valid alternative to the unpleasant albeit necessary conventional detoxification that must be carried out during drug rehab. While the latter isn’t only unpleasant but also unable to eliminate toxins that may be hidden within fat cells, biophysical detoxification guarantees complete removal of all toxins belonging to the abused substance no matter where they are hidden.
While conventional drug rehab procedures like medical detoxification, psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, and peer motivation do yield positive results, the rate at which relapses occur means that there is a need for an alternative that avoids the shortcomings of the traditional route to wellness.
Holistic addiction treatment, however, is a safer method that doesn’t only guarantee complete recovery but also reduces the possibility of a setback. Since it basically tackles the underlying cause of an addiction problem, the resolution of the inherent issues is certain to modify the patient’s behavior and limit the risk of a relapse.
Holistic drug rehab may not be the messianic solution to drug addiction; however, in terms of treatments presently available, it definitely ranks as one of the most effective therapeutic option.
