Addiction Residential Program
Maui Recovery Addiction Residential Program
Maui Recovery offers a full continuum of care – from residential, to extended care and then sober living. We believe that if you walk 5 miles into the woods, then it takes 5 miles to walk out, meaning that it takes time to really go through the healing & recovery process. The statistics of relapse on the mainland is 92%, which is extremely high. And what we are finding out, is that 30 days of rehabilitation is rarely enough. While we have seen individuals come for 30 days and leave be successful at Maui Recovery, the statistics clearly show that long term care works. And what we are known most for, is our full continuum of care programs, both residential & aftercare. We work with individuals and families through the entire process, helping each individual and their family with achieving their goals.
Recovering from drug addiction or consistent alcohol intoxication isn’t a walk in a park; in fact, it requires concerted effort from every party involved in the treatment process to actualize the goal of recovery. Even when the objective is achieved, there is still no guarantee that the recovery will be sustained.
In most substance addiction cases, an inpatient drug program, which entails a well elaborate scheme incorporating clinical diagnosis and treatment, mental nurturing, and healthy social practices, is usually enough to return any addiction patient on the brink to a state of complete wellness.
There are, however, times when even a comprehensive inpatient drug rehab program is incapable of suppressing an individual’s addictive tendencies. This is when the wildcard program called extended residential drug treatment is used. And this is why we created a full continuum of care to create real transformation, growth and development for our clients.

And lastly, we are learning how to have fun in sobriety!
What is an Extended Residential Program?
Our Extended residential program refers to an arrangement where a residential/inpatient addiction treatment program continues even after the initial period of the program elapses.
It is important not to mix-up extended residential drug treatment with long term inpatient drug rehab since the two are closely related and in fact function in unison. The structure of each program, however, clearly shows the disparity that abounds between them.
Based on the apt definition relayed above, it is clear that extended residential drug treatment is a program that is only accessed after the main treatment is completed. It is, thus, safe to conclude that such an extensive rehab program cannot be established until after the inpatient drug treatment program is complete.
Why is Extended Residential Program Used?
There is no drug abuse treatment option that is capable of alleviating all types and severity of drug addiction and this is because a treatment plan is usually tailored to fit the peculiarity of the addiction case.
While the basic treatment program used in rehabilitation centers comprises of a residential drug treatment plan that sees the patient become a permanent resident of the rehab facility for the duration of the treatment (usually 60-90 days), it is not the only option available for patients looking to cleanse their bodies from the harmful substance impeding normal functions.
No matter the treatment plan applied to an addiction case, there is really no guarantee that the patient will fully return to a state of wellness; and even if the treatment proves to be successful, maintaining recovery is another battle that can as well end in terrible defeat for the patient.
This is why extended residential drug treatment is always an option for patients who are unable to achieve recovery after the basic rehab procedure is completed. It is also a viable post-treatment arrangement that can be used to reduce the chances of a relapse after a rehab treatment has been completed. Maui Recovery is meant for people to come and heal, be treated, grieve the past hurts, find a new relationship with Self, Higher Power and Others, and then grow within their new community that is both safe & nurturing, while practicing the new tools learned. We are experiencing something here that is truly special, and seeing real and lasting results.
Highly Structured Sober Living in Hawaii
Maui Recovery’s residential extended care is located in Kihei, Hi in Maui. The overall goal of our residential extended care program is to help our clients begin and develop a sober life, providing additional care, development and mentorship versus just going into a “sober living house”. Just doing sober living after treatment, can be dangerous. There aren’t structures in place for individuals to maintain their habits they’ve recently learned in Treatment, so the relapse rate is high. Typically, there is just a house manager, a house meeting every week and random UA’s. That is simply not enough, which is why we have created an Extended Care Transitional Sober living.
The length of stay in our residential program is determined by individual needs.
- The chemical dependency track is a 90 day recommended stay.
- The dual diagnosis program may last up to six months.
Once clients complete a treatment program, they have the opportunity to step down into transitional living and live at our center, to continue with their recovery while under the care of our team. This is a very unique opportunity because most places just go into a sober house, as mentioned before.
There are also special programs that assist with therapy still needed, time management, employment, budgeting, and life skills if requested.
Clients will be able to find employment, go back to school, and stay highly engaged in the strong recovery community on the island in Maui. We have seen excellent results with our clients, who have completed their treatment, stayed for transitional living, and now an integral part of the community, even mentoring and giving back to the new residents who are coming in to start their treatment.
