We believe that connection is an essential part of recovery. At Maui Recovery family, or ohana, is an all-inclusive word. In our program we encourage our clients to define and choose the support group that will act as their ohana and help foster long-term sobriety. Critical ohana members may be extended family, close and safe friends, clergy, or 12-Step sponsors, for example. We consider all of our guests, whether residents, family, or visitors, as ohana. Once you walk through our doors, we are there to welcome you as a vital part of our healing program of recovery. Our family program is designed to allow our clients and their families to be simultaneously involved in the treatment process, which fosters connection and support. Increased family participation in treatment has been correlated with better recovery outcomes. It is also an opportunity to educate the family about the disease of addiction. The program is overseen and facilitated by therapists licensed in marriage and family therapy who have had specific training in family dynamics. In addition, the supervisor of our family program has certifications in both family therapy and substance abuse treatment, thus assuring that both family and substance abuse issues are addressed in an effective and safe manner.
