Most substance abuse treatment centers have a 30-day program they like to prescribe to all of their patients, and wonder why their success rate in long-term recovery is so low. At Maui Recovery, we know that no two patients are alike or have the same needs. We offer 30, 60, and 90-day treatment with aftercare options, as well.
Across the country, relapse rates of substance abuse treatment centers are dismal. On average, a rehab graduate will relapse within the first 90 days of being released from a facility. After 24 months, a staggering 87% of all rehab graduates will have relapsed! There are many reasons why this happens, and it can’t all be blamed on treatment facilities. However, one of the most overlooked reasons for such dismal relapse rates for rehab graduates is co-occurring disorders.
Depending on which study you reference, as many as 57-65% of all people with substance abuse problems also have a co-occurring mental health disorder, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc. Because 99% of all drug and alcohol treatment centers do not adequately treat these underlying co-occurring disorders, their patients are set up for failure. When a person has a dual diagnosis, the addiction and the mental health disorder must be treated.
Many Treatment Centers for Chemical Dependency are Profit Centers
Some of the best substance abuse treatment centers in the world fail to meet the needs of their patients. Sometimes, this is because many rehab centers for drugs and alcohol are little more than profit centers. They are set up for the purpose of making profits, and they are run as businesses, with the bottom line being the top priority. Ultimately, the goal of these facilities is to make money, and if they can help a few people get clean and sober in the meantime, then that’s great! If not, at least they made their money!
The problem with these types of facilities is that they usually have cut and paste treatment models that they apply to all of their patients. Then, they stuff as many patients into what limited space that they have so they can make as much money as possible. When profits are a substance abuse treatment center’s primary concern, it’s not a surprise that personal care is often lacking.
Many Substance Abuse Treatment Centers are Lacking!
Other substance abuse treatment centers have better intentions, but the results that they deliver are not much better than the previous kinds of treatment centers for substance abuse. Many rehab facilities in Hawaii and beyond are underfunded, understaffed, and over-crowded. It is impossible for these kinds of facilities to provide the type of personalized, hands-on care that is needed to deliver meaningful results and lasting sobriety.
